The Sensational She-Hulk, Vol. 1 by John Byrne

The Headmen have set Mysterio up the bomb so they don’t actually have to pay him so he spills the beans which leads Spider-Man to them. Third issue means either a Spider-Man or Wolverine appearance to drum up sales and Mysterio is usually a Spider-Man villain so he’s up. When the illusion unravels, Mysterio just hits her with sleeping gas and delivers her to the Headmen. Until next issue when the Headmen hire Mysterio to capture She-Hulk which he does by faking an alien invasion using a giant canvas dome with matte paintings on the inside and cockney dwarves disguised as Toad Men to call back to the Hulk’s second issue. The Headmen disapprove and break the brainwashing, She-Hulk captures the circus and a good time is had by all. They pay the Circus of Crime three million dollars to test She-Hulk’s strength but they decide to make some money on the side by hypnotizing her, disguising her as Glamazonia and having her literally shake money out of their audience. Chondu after he turned himself into a I don’t know what. The Headmen want She-Hulk’s body so they can graft on the head of Dr.

Okay, so lets look at the first mini-arc in a bit more depth.

And then a stand-alone where she teams up with Santa to put a serial killer in jail. And then SHE-HULK IN SPAAAAAAAAACE and wrapping up the U.S. And then one where she saves television from a concerned parent. Then a stand-alone that establishes She-Hulk’s new status quo working for the DA and has her fight Stilt-Man. The first mini-arc features the Headmen, a group of scientists that screwed themselves up with science and now want to do more science to make it better, taking an interest in She-Hulk. The first eight issues feature two mini-arcs and three stand-alones. Nice of them to include it in the trade, I suppose. Simple concept and She-Hulk admits that the whole thing was just hype. And then she opens up her present from Marvel and its just the first issue of the Sensational series. The promo comic just has She-Hulk bored on Christmas and having a fantasy sequence about fighting Dr. Well, here we are! The first eight issues and a not-even-bothered-to-be-thinly-veiled promotional comic hyping the series. You might remember back in my Savage She-Hulk review (review #13, true believers!) I mentioned that She-Hulk was probably better known from her portrayal in the meta-tastic Sensational series than the more serious fare of Savage.
